It can be harvested within 4 to 6 years, making it a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood. Regular harvesting is even necessary to keep bamboo forests healthy.

The bamboo material is made by heating and compressing bamboo fibers.

WEATHERING

Bamboo is a material that undergoes a natural discoloration over time. UV light affects the bamboo, causing the surface to become lighter and change from dark brown to grey-brown. This discoloration does not affect the quality of the material. The stability and hardness remain unchanged.

The degree of greying depends on the location and the amount of UV radiation. To maintain the original color, bamboo can be treated with oil, such as Woca Exterior Wood Oil.

Certification

FSC 100%

FSC is globally recognized as the best certification system for sustainable forest management. It was developed to combat deforestation. Although bamboo harvesting annually does not lead to deforestation, bamboo with FSC certification is often requested in construction projects. Since 2008, bamboo has been included in the FSC system, and our supplier MOSO was one of the first companies to obtain FSC certification for bamboo.

EPD CERTIFICATION (EN 15804)

An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) describes the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle. To obtain the certificate, a life cycle analysis must be conducted for a specific product. This analysis assesses whether the product has a sustainable life cycle. According to EN 15804, MOSO Bamboo X-treme has a negative CO2 impact, meaning it captures more CO2 than is released during its life cycle.
